Sans que ses amis et compagnons d'aventures de l'épisode 2, Bethany, Fridge et Martha, ne soient au courant, Spencer a conservé les morceaux du jeu vidéo Jumanji dans le sous-sol de la maison de sa mère. De retour pour les vacances, alors qu'il mène une vie d'étudiant difficile à New-York et qu'il est contraint de partager sa chambre avec son grand-père convalescent, il répare le système et est happé par le jeu. Le lendemain, ses amis, avec qui il avait rendez-vous pour un brunch, passent chez lui prendre de ses nouvelles, ne l'y trouvent pas, mais constatent que le jeu en est en cours dans la cave de Spencer : tous décident de rentrer dans Jumanji pour le sauver. Le grand-père de Spencer, Eddie, et son ami Milo Walker entendent le chahut et se laissent entraîner par inadvertance dans le jeu et deviennent deux des avatars de Jumanji. Les amis adolescents doivent aider Eddie et Milo à s’habituer à leurs avatars du jeu, les aider à retrouver Spencer et à s'échapper à nouveau de Jumanji (ce qui n'est pas une tâche facile étant donné qu'il s'agit du niveau supérieur).

The film begins with a young boy, Thomas, taken in by Ava Paige (Patricia Clarkson) and troops from the organization WCKD, alongside other children, after being dropped off by his mother for his own safety. Years later, shortly after being rescued from the maze, Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) and the remaining Gladers - Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster), Minho (Ki Hong Lee), Teresa Agnes (Kaya Scodelario), Frypan (Dexter Darden) and Winston (Alexander Flores) - are taken to a facility run by Mr. Janson (Aidan Gillen). He explains that the facility is a safe haven, protecting them from WCKD, the Flare virus and the Cranks, and provides them clothes, food, and sanitation, where there are other survivors of multiple mazes are also present. Thomas becomes curious about their activities and manages to find out what is really happening behind the closed doors. With help from Aris Jones (Jacob Lofland), the first maze survivor to end up in the facility, it is revealed that WCKD's leader, Ava, is still alive and that Mr. Janson is working for WCKD, as they discuss about the experiment on the Immunes and that Janson has yet to find The Right Arm, a resistance group located at the mountains. The group, including Aris, escapes the facility, as Janson orders his WCKD troops to track them down, where they find themselves in the deserted outside world - the Scorch.

Set in the late 18th century, the story follows the life of Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire. Despite the blatant infidelities of her husband, the cold and much older William Cavendish, the 5th Duke of Devonshire, Georgiana thrives, becoming a fashion icon, a doting mother, a shrewd political operator, and darling of the common people. In befriending Lady Bess Foster, Georgiana is crushed when Bess and The Duke begin an affair. Despite Georgiana's anger, the Duke wants Bess to remain living with them. Bess later explains to Georgiana that the reason she began the affair with the Duke was so that she could get her children back. The Duke wants a male heir, which the Duchess has not yet provided. The idea is that Bess can, since she already has three sons, of whom the Duke is very fond, treating them as if they were his own.
