Lokesh (Kannada: ಲೋಕೇಶ್; 19 May 1947 – 14 October 2004) was an Indian stage actor turned film actor, who appeared in Kannada feature films. His wife Girija Lokesh is a film actress and film director. His father was Subbaiah Naidu, who is credited to be first hero of Kananda silent movies.

He had thrice won the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actor during his career, for Bhootayyana Maga Ayyu (1974), for Parasangada Gendethimma (1978) and for Banker Margayya (1984).

This film depicts the story of a farmer named "Putnanja"(Ravichandran), living with his grandmother named Putmalli(Umashri) near Nanjangud town in Mysore district. Putnanja was a man respected by everyone in the village and was well-known to all for his kindness towards poor and backward. When Putnanja hears a news regarding arrival of Roja (Meena) to India(who went to America for studies during childhood and whom Putnanja likes and wants to marry) he rushes towards her place to propose her to marry him. When Putnanja goes and proposes her, she does not even recognize him, and suggests not to talk about their marriage in future days. Putnanja's mother-in-law wants her daughter roja to get married to a rich, educated person and hence opposes Putnanja's proposal, but his father-in-law(Lokesh) wants her daughter to get married to him since he is very kind and a good man. Lokesh can't do anything he wants since he would be working as slave to his wife.
