Olga Vladimirovna Baclanova (Russian: О́льга Влади́мировна Бакла́нова; 19 August 1893 – 6 September 1974) was a Russian-born actress of stage and screen and operatic singer, and ballerina. She achieved prominence during the silent film era and was often billed under her last name only, as Baclanova, similarly to the surname only nomenclature assigned to fellow countrywoman Nazimova.
She was billed as the "Russian Tigress" and remains most noted by modern audiences for portraying the fictional Duchess Josiana in the Universal silent The Man Who Laughs and trapeze artist Cleopatra in Tod Browning's horror movie Freaks (1932), which features a cast of actual carnival sideshow freaks.

The film opens with a sideshow barker drawing customers to visit the sideshow. A woman looks into a box to view a hidden occupant and screams. The barker explains that the horror in the box was once a beautiful and talented trapeze artist. The central story is of this conniving trapeze artist Cleopatra, who seduces and marries sideshow midget Hans after learning of his large inheritance. Cleopatra conspires with circus strongman Hercules to kill Hans and inherit his wealth. At their wedding reception, Cleopatra begins poisoning Hans' wine. Oblivious, the other "freaks" announce that they accept Cleopatra in spite of her being a "normal" outsider: they hold an initiation ceremony in which they pass a massive goblet of wine around the table while chanting, "We accept her, we accept her. One of us, one of us. Gooba-gobble, gooba-gobble". The ceremony frightens the drunken Cleopatra, who accidentally reveals that she has been having an affair with Hercules. She mocks the freaks, tosses the wine in their faces and drives them away. The humiliated Hans realizes that he's been played for a fool and rejects Cleopatra's attempts to apologize, but then he falls ill from the poison.

The film opens with Baron Von Burgen's (Reginald Owen) head butler Albert (Paul Lukas) marrying the young maid, Anna (Virginia Bruce), on the Baron's Austrian estate. During the ceremony, chauffeur Karl Schneider (John Gilbert) arrives, and soon finds an old acquaintance - a former lover - Countess De Marnac (Hedda Hopper), who appears displeased with Karl mixing with her elite friends. That night, when Françoise (Lucien Littlefield), one of the butlers, gets too drunk too work, Albert is summoned to take over his shift.
