Cheer Up and Smile is a 1930 American Pre-Code musical film directed by Sidney Lanfield. The film starred Arthur Lake, Dixie Lee and Olga Baclanova and a 23-year-old John Wayne had a minor uncredited role.

Synopsis

Pour parfaire l'initiation qui lui permettra d'intégrer une fraternité, Eddie Fripp doit donner un coup de pied au premier homme qu'il rencontre, ce sera un des professeurs, et embrasser la première femme, ce sera une étudiante. Cela cause à la fois son renvoi de l'université et la colère de sa petite amie Margie, qui l'a vu embrasser l'étudiante. Il se rend alors à New York où il trouve du travail comme chanteur au Café Pierre. Une nuit, lors d'un cambriolage, Whispering Jack Smith est mis KO et Eddie est forcé de prendre sa place au micro. Sa voix fait sensation, il devient célèbre et se réconcilie avec Margie.

Jimmy Sutton, the publicity agent of a major Hollywood studios, is taking part in the endless search to find an actress to star in the adaptation of a best-selling novel Girl of the North. In Minnesota he discovers Trudi Hovland a schoolteacher who is perfect for the part. After he tacking her back to Los Angeles she manages to secure the role. In an effort to boost their popularity, Jimmy organises a fake romance between Trudi and another Hollywood star, Roger Maxwell. He neglects to tell Trudi that Roger is already romantically involved with another actress and is only interested in publicity.
