Inspector Sunil Rana (Shatrughan Sinha) has been assigned the case of triple-homicide of the Sinha family, namely Mr. Sinha (Ashok Kumar); his son Inspector Rohan (Vinod Mehra), and Rohan's wife (Bindiya Goswami). After an investigation, Sunil concludes that the assailant can only be Dr. Singh (Kader Khan), who escapes from India, and re-locates to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, far from the jurisdiction of Bombay Police. Sunil must overcome borders to apprehend Dr. Singh, and thus bring justice to the Sinha family. It is then Sunil comes to know that Dr. Singh is not the only one involved in this homicide, which is far more complicated that he had thought it to be so.

Raj Nagar estates owner Raja Dharma Raj Singh is a millionaire. He and his wife Radha have a son and Radha is pregnant with a daughter. One day, Devan Kuber Singh, alias Cobra (Kader Khan), a smuggler and gangster, kills Dharma Raj and frames it as an accident. Anil and Shobha are in love and are about to get married. Anil goes abroad for a while. He returns after one year and finds that Shobha has married a rich man, JK. He is unaware that Shobha has done this to save the life of his sister, Vinnie. Vinnie was about to become a mother before marriage. She had only one choice of saving Vinnie's life, it was to marry JK. Only then he would release Vinnie's love, Rakesh. He actually wanted to marry Shobha because he wanted to embarrass her in front of everyone because she had embarrassed him in front of his office people. So, Shobha convinces Anil's mother to let Vinnie marry the one she loves. But Anil thinks that she got married to JK because he is a rich man. Anil takes a trip somewhere else to forget her. There, he falls in love with a girl named Sona. Meanwhile, JK keeps embarrassing Shobha every time. When JK subsequently gets to know that he might die due to too much intake of alcohol, he grows nice with Shobha, and soon they fall in love. Anil gets married to Sona while JK dies. Anil thinks its Shobha's punishment of what she did that killed JK. But then Anil comes to know the truth and visits her. She is pregnant with JK's baby. One day Anil meets her in the hospital but Sona sees them and she misunderstands their relation. She has a car accident and is soon admitted in the hospital. The doctor says that she is all right but she cannot have a baby. That night Anil tells the truth about Shobha to his mother and Sona. Suddenly Shobha appears she gives her own baby to Sona. She says that it is her all fault that Sona couldn't have a baby. Shobha had consumed a bottle of poison before coming to Anil's house. She is soon dead.

Vikram Singh (Amjad Khan) is framed for possession of drugs but claims he was framed by a business associate named Rajan (Sujit Kumar). After release from prison he kills Rajan and frames his former lawyer Amit (Amitabh Bachchan). Amit is forced to go on the run while his pregnant wife Janki (Waheeda Rehman) gives birth to twin sons Guru and Shankar (Both played by Amitabh Bachchan). Unfortunately she becomes separated from one of her sons Guru when her son is stolen by a barren couple. With her husband on the run and one son missing, Janki is forced to raise Shankar on her own. Amit thinks his wife Janki is dead so tries to lead a normal life using the name Rana Ranveer and living with his adopted daughter Manju (Parveen Babi). But Janki is living in another city with Shankar who has become a police inspector. Guru had been brought up by a barren couple and grows up to be a theatre actor and pursued by Rita (Zeenat Aman). Manju meets and falls in love with Shankar, unaware that he is Rana Ranveer's long lost son. At the end their lives interwine and all are reunited and become a family again.

Arun Khanna (Shashi Kapoor) is an NRI from Toronto, Canada who marries a traditional Indian woman Shobha (Sharmila Tagore). They have a son named Raju (Raj Babbar) and a daughter named Pinky (Bobita). Shobha finds it difficult to fit into the Western lifestyle in Canada and eventually separates from Arun after suspecting him of an affair with his secretary. Shobha decides to take her son Raju back with her to India while Arun stays in Canada with his daughter Pinky. 20 years pass by and the family is reunited when Pinky is kidnapped by some gangsters led by psycopathic killer Tony (Nadeem Baig). Tony develops an obsession with Pinky and falls in love with her. Pinky initially resists him but eventually she too falls in love with him. Raju is brought to Canada by his mother Shobha, unaware of Arun being his father. He is told by Shobha that Arun is an old family friend who needs help finding his daughter. Raju enlists the help of Renu (Parveen Babi) to help find the gang who kidnapped Pinky. Raju soon discovers Arun is actually his father and Pinky is his sister. Raju is contacted by the kidnappers and hands over the ransom money to Tony. Tony's boss (David Abraham) realising that Tony is getting too close to Pinky decides to have Pinky killed. Tony intervenes and kills his boss and runs away with Pinky. Tony and Pinky hide out at a cottage and his boss's henchman find them and surround them, armed with guns. Raju and his family also arrive and fight off the henchmen. Pinky sees her father and runs out, while a shootout is ensuing between Tony and the henchmen. Tony runs out to save Pinky from the gunfire and is shot several times by the henchmen. Raju and Renu kill the goons and Pinky admits she loves Tony before he dies. In the end, Pinky reunites with her father, mother and brother.
