Paul Sylbert (born 16 April 1928) is an American Academy Award-winning production designer, art director, and set designer who directed on occasion.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Sylbert fought in the Korean War and attended the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania with his identical twin brother Richard. Early in their careers, they collaborated on Baby Doll and A Face in the Crowd.

Sylbert's additional design credits include The Wrong Man, The Tiger Makes Out, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Drowning Pool, Heaven Can Wait, Kramer vs. Kramer, Wolfen, Blow Out, Gorky Park, The Pope of Greenwich Village, Ishtar, Biloxi Blues, Fresh Horses, The Prince of Tides, Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home, The Grass Harp, Rosewood, Conspiracy Theory, and To End All Wars.

Sylbert's one foray into writing and directing for feature films was The Steagle (1971) starring Richard Benjamin. The screenplay for the 1981 film Nighthawks was adapted from a story he wrote. He directed episodes of the television series The Defenders, The Nurses, and The Reporter.

Sylbert's lone theatre credit is a 1990 revival of the Elmer Rice play Street Scene at the New York State Theater in Lincoln Center.

Sylbert won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction for Heaven Can Wait and was nominated for The Prince of Tides.

Sylbert's first marriage was to artist Victoria Delacorte and they had one child named Christopher. His second marriage was to costume designer Anthea Sylbert; the couple had no children. His third marriage was to Jeanette D'Ambrosio; they have two children a girl named Olivia and a boy named Christian.

Sylbert currently is a member of the faculty at the Film and Media Arts department of Temple University in Philadelphia, PA where he teaches courses in film studies.

Three armed assailants mug a woman who turns out to be NYPD Detective Sergeant Deke DaSilva in drag. His partner, Detective Sergeant Matthew Fox, immobilizes two of the suspects as Deke chases the third upstairs to the subway station platform, taunts him, and incapacitates him with a scarf. On the same day in London, terrorist Heymar Reinhardt, alias Wulfgar (Rutger Hauer) bombs a department store. Meanwhile, back in New York City, DaSilva and Fox serve a high-risk warrant in the Bronx. They raid a known drug distribution spot, where they discover corrupt police officers among the dealers. After the arrest, DaSilva meets his estranged wife, Irene, and professes his love for her. Irene initially rebuffs DaSilva's advances but eventually renews their relationship.

A married white woman, Fanny Taylor, claims to have been beaten and raped by a black man. The movie shows a white man, not Fanny’s husband, in her bedroom where they have sex. They have an argument and strike each other. Some black workers outside heard what was happening but did not think they should intervene in white people's business. The white residents readily believe Fanny's claim. Hearing of an escaped black convict, a posse and other unaffiliated white men from Sumner and nearby towns go to Rosewood to investigate. The black residents of Rosewood quickly become targeted by a white mob, including men from out of state and members of the Ku Klux Klan.

It's been two years since Jesse saved and freed his orca friend, Willy. Jesse, now a teenager, has since been adopted by his foster parents, Glen and Annie Greenwood.
