T. S. Krishnan (17 July 1963 – 11 September 1996), also known as Kozhikode Krishnan, was an Indian film actor who worked in Malayalam language films. He often excelled in villain roles. He was a regular actor in Shaji Kailas films.

The city of Kozhikode is victimized by a massive communal riot against the slums, costing the lives of 12 people. Madhu Kumar (Appa Haja), a wildlife photographer, had witnessed a group of criminals transporting explosives through the local forest check post, so he calls up the local police commissioner Shankar (Devan) and passes the information. Shankar asks him to wait for his officers to pick him up. But instead of the police, it was the same goons who came for Madhu, resulting in his death. While having the police to fight against the rioters, the aggressive and belligerent, yet honorable and incorruptible district collector Joseph Alex IAS (Mammootty) is suspicious of Shankar's activities and decides to investigate the case. He is assisted by ASP Prasad (Ganeshan), one of the sincere officers who admires Joseph for his arrogant way of dealing politicians and officials. Also tagging along with Alex is the young assistant district collector Anuradha Mukerji IAS (Vani Viswanath), whose freecare style conflicts against Alex's strict behavior because of her tragic childhood. It later turns out that Anura's behavior was rooted from a horrible experience of when her father continuously cheated on her mother a lot, and that her mother prayed to her to no avail, which is why Anura pretended to be a freak to ease her pain. Upon learning this, Alex decides to warm up to her.

The movie opens with Kozhikode city police commissioner Bharathchandran (Suresh Gopi ), an honest but brash cop, busting a gold smuggling racket in. Bharath clearly has an issue with authority and breaths fire each time he encounters a political arm bender, such as Kunju Moideen Saahib, whose gang was involved in the bust. But it his mentor and guardian angel I.G. Balachandran (M.G. Soman), who has been evidently shielding him from the wrath of the political brass.

Vishwanathan (Suresh Gopi), due to his passion for farming and agriculture, gave up his job in an MNC and has been settled in his village. One day he gets a call from Hyderabad that Revathi (Maathu), his sister, who is studying medicine at a medical college has been missing for the past couple of days. Vishwanathan sets out to Hyderabad on the same day in a tourist bus. The bus, which is on a trip to Tirupati, is packed with a set of Tamil Brahmin pilgrims. Gowri (Annie), a beautiful girl among them grabs his attention for her singing abilities. The next day morning, on reaching Hyderabad, Vishwanathan reaches the college, and from her friends comes to know that Revathi had received threats from one Sudhakar Reddy (K. B. Ganesh Kumar), son of an underworld don. Revathi, who had witnessed a murder committed by Sudhakar, had planned to appear at an identification parade at the police station. Sudhkar in fury, rapes her, and in an effort to save herself, she falls down from the top of a building and dies. Vishwanathan visits the nearby police station to file a complaint, but gets cold response from the local inspector. He even threatens to arrest Vishwanathan, if he decides to move ahead with the complaint. Vishwanathan, who goes crazy of anger, gets into a scuffle with Sudhakar, and kills him, which causes his father Reddy, who is now ruling the city, to hunt for Vishwanathan. He is saved by the rival mafia don Patel (Devan). Vishwanathan is made to stay at a brothel run by Patel, where he meets Appu (Maniyanpilla Raju), a good hearted chap. At the brothel, he is shocked to see Gowri, with whom he had a crush on the bus on the road to Hyderabad. From Appu, he comes to know that she was trapped and kidnapped at Tirupathi and has been sold to Patel by a lady pimp (Lalithasree). On meeting Vishwanathan, Gowri pleads him to save her. At night, she hits the local inspector with a liquor bottle, causing him injury. Vishwanathan decides to save her and is helped by Appu in finding a route outside. Appu introduces him to Jose (Vijayaraghavan), a truck driver from Kerala and his sidekick Kunjahammed (Augustine). But Appu is killed by the goons of Patel. Vishwanathan flees out from the brothel with Gowri and is followed by Patel and his goons. On other side, Reddy is also after him. Their chase turns more violent as they face several hardships on the path, including many local criminals. But Vishwanathan, after a bloody, long chase, succeeds in saving her by killing both Patel and Reddy.

Swami Amoorthananda (Narendra Prasad), a holy godman with strong international connections also runs a powerful narcotic drug mafia in the state. He also has several connections with in political circles. A good orator, Swami also draws a large number of devotees from abroad and many are slowly turned into addicts. A series of murders at Kovalam beach invites sharp criticism of the govt and the chief minister (Madhu) decides to bring a new head to the state narcotics wing. Madhavan IPS (Suresh Gopi), thus arrives in Kerala from New Delhi, and is assisted by Sharath Chandran (Siddique), a smart CI of Kerala police. Madhavan's aggressive way of investigation leads him to the ashram or Swami Amoorthananda, which creates a panic in the state. Swami decides to eliminate Madhavan and also plans to topple the CM by appointing his left arm, Velayudhan (Rajan P. Dev) as the new CM. Mahesh Nair (Devan) arrives in Kerala upon the order of Swami. He kills Sarath Chandran, which forces Madhavan to react violently. Madhavan raids the ashram and spoils Swami's plot to cause a series of bomb blasts in the state. In the climax, Madhavan kills Swami and Mahesh Nair, thus saving the state from a series of blasts and communal riots.

Jayashankar (Janardhanan), a sincere senior officer with Bangalore police is in direct fight with Surya Devaraja Gowda (Tiger Prabhakar), an underworld don who rules the city along with Chandra Gowda (Babu Antony), his younger brother. His family is too worried about his safety and younger brother Harishankar (Vikram Kennedy)always reminds him of it. Shivappa (Vijayaraghavan), an ex-mafia leader, now leads a retired life in the city suburbs running a stable. Though, retired, he has deep vengeance against Gowda, who had broken his leg, making him permanently disabled. Jayshankar longs his brother Ravishankar to join police. Ravi, currently working for Deccan Chronicle, a leading Bangalore daily, is also attempting for IPS. One day Jayashankar receives an information that a consignment belonging to Gowda is arriving the city. Along with Inspector Narayanan (Maniyan Pillai Raju), he tries to seize the trucks, but is shot killed by the goons. Ravishankar, who has just got a letter confirming his selection for IPS, reaches Jayashankar to inform the news, witnesses the brutal murder of his brother. Ravi reaches out the office of city police commissioner, but is shocked to find the killers there having a small talk with Govindan (M. G. Soman), the city deputy police commissioner. Ravi reacts violently and raise his hands at Govindan, accusing him of siding with Gowda. Govindan orders arrest of Ravi. The court sentences Ravi to 2 years in jail for assaulting a senior police officer on duty. Ravi loses his IPS selection because of his jail term. Upon release he decides to avenge his brother's death. Harishankar introduces Ravi to Felixa Alexandra alias Sandra (Geetha), the daughter of an ex-mafiosi, who was killed by Gowda. Sandra is now running a few business offices of which Harishankar is the manager. Sandra agrees to help Ravi in his mission. She introduces him to Shivappa. Though initially reluctant, he agrees to provide money and weapons in the war against Gowda. The central government nominates confers IPS for Govindan, who is also promoted as the city commissioner. At a function organized to felicitate Govindan, Ravi intrudes along with Hari and insults him publicly. The sudden and violent reaction or Govindan is recorded and passed over to higher authorities, causing the suspension of Govindan. Ravi targets the establishments of Gowda. He along with Shivappa blackmails Nanjappa (Renji Panicker), the home minister and gets Gowda raided. The loss of finance enrages Gowda, who sends Chandra, his brother to finish out Ravishankar. But Chandra is killed by Ravi. Gowda kidnaps Hari and offers deal. Upon the demand of Gowda, Ravi arrives, but along with Shivappa and his mercenary power. Ravishankar successfully saves his brother and finishes off Surya Devaraja Gowda by overrunning cars over him.

The film gets its title from Mammootty's character's role Johnnie Varghese. He has a brother Bobby Varghese who studies in Bangalore degree college for Economics. A visit from his brother and friends changes Johnnie's mind and he joins college despite of his age. From there he clashes with Swamy who rules the college with his drug gang. Because of his love towards his brother Bobby, Johnnie joins to his college as a student and starts living together. Soon he became the hero of the college as well as rival to Saamy and his gang. Bobby falls in love with his classmate Chandini, who was a depressed girl, as she was an adopted child to her parents. Chandini was adicted to drugs by Saamy and was hospitalised. Johnnie suffers from eye sight problems and realizes that he will soon loose his sight completely. Because of this he wants to see Bobbie's marriage and pleads to Chandini's parents for the same. At last they agrees after hearing his story. On the night of the marriage Bobbie is killed by Saamy and his gang. When Johnnie comes to know about his brother's death, he rushes towards Saamy and Didi, the leader of the gang and kills them. In the end Johnnie looses his sight completely and meets with an accident and dies.
