Verma Malik (Hindi: वर्मा मलिक ) (13 April 1925, Firozpur – 15 March 2009, Juhu) was a Bollywood lyricist. He was an active freedom fighter during the British Raj. He wrote many patriotic songs and lived in India after partition. He wrote Bhajan and recited them immediately prior to penning lyrics for films.

Hansraj Behl helped him in the beginning of his career. His first big break was as Yadgar in the 1970 film by Manoj Kumar. He is known for the song 'Ek Tara Bole'.

The movie starts with two innocent and kind hearted guys named Heeralal (Shashi Kapoor) and Pannalal (Randhir Kapoor). They are famous among criminals as they have helped police in capturing them several times. Heeralal is in search of his parent’s killer but has no idea of him at all. Pannalal is in search of his father. Heeralal meets with a girl named Ruby (Zeenat Aman) and falls in love with her. Pannalal falls in love with Ruby’s friend, Neelam (Neetu Singh).

After the tragic death of her dad, Dr. Rekha continues to live with her step-mother in Bombay, where she runs a Mental Institute. While traveling by train one night, they are accosted by a knife wielding escaped mental patient, Sunil, whose aggression is calmed by Rekha. She gets him admitted into her hospital where he is put under observation and treatment at the hands of Dr. Mathur and herself. He soon starts responding positively under their care, and is on his way to recovery. Once he saves Rekha from being molested in a parking lot, and this sparks romance between the two. All is set for the two to get engaged at a lavish party. It is at this party that Rekha will find out that Sunil is not who he claims to be, and subsequently Sunil will also find out that Rekha has a dark secret in her recent past - a secret for which she is being blackmailed by a man named Tiger - and a secret that may well expose her as a murderess.

Seth Durgadas is a rich businessman, revered by his son Kumar and society. In reality, Durgadas is the leader of a smuggling gang. As a trusted member of society, he gets all information, while his gang executes his plans. However, during one such robbery, a gang member turns greedy and flees with the diamonds. Durgadas sends another man to retrieve the diamonds and kill the traitor. The traitor is killed, but the killer too flees with the diamonds.

Movie starts in train where Pyarelal and Tina meet. Both of them get down to have some food but miss their train but some how reach Rai Saheb's haveli. Tina's uncle's haveli is shown to be haunted. Initially Rai Saheb and his wife were considered one of the rich people of the village; they had a priceless diamond. That diamond attracted Jagjit and Prem Singh. By knowing this plan, Rai Saheb transfers his all secrets to his nephew Tina who used to study in London. But somehow Jagjit could not get control, so he killed Rai Saheb. Mrs. Rai went to shock. Jagjit found out a girl same in looks with Mrs Chachi so he becomes Mr. Rai & that similar girl Mrs. Rai. Shakti kapoor tries to harass Tina by showing various freaky things, ghosts, but all his plans could not succeed because of Pyarelal. Tina falls in love with Pyarelal. Both start caring and loving each other. They came to know about Jagjit & Prem Singh's plan. They also find there is real Mrs. Rai and help her in reviving her memory. They plan down things to first create a fight between Jagjit & Prem, and later call the police.
