Bhagmati is a 2005 Indian Hindi partly animation film written and directed by Ashok Kaul. This is the first Indian film almost two-thirds of which is animation, with "live actors" doing the rest.
The film is based on the love story between Prince Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah of Hyderabad and Bhagmati, known for her legendary beauty.

A clotheswashgirl finds a hand in a creek where she was washing clothes. She and other clotheswashmen nearby gather together and summon the police. After an investigation, the police find various parts of this body, and determine it to be that of a young woman. They do not succeed in finding the head of the corpse, and a check with missing persons produces negative results. When Inspector Pyare Mohan, who was assigned to this investigation, receives a threat by an anonymous caller on the phone, he recommends that this file be closed. Then additional evidence surfaces, and the case is turned over to CBI Office Jasraj Patel, who along with his assistant, Gangaram, arrive to take over this investigation. They find out that the corpse is indeed of a young woman, Roshni Choubey. Roshni comes from a poor family of four unmarried sisters. Roshni seemed to be involved with several men, including Dr. Kamal Dogra (Ashutosh Rana), Mohan Multani (Aditya Pancholi), Captain Ajit Verma (Milind Soman) and Bishen Nanda (Akhilendra Mishra) - all of who have a motive for killing her and disposing off her body. Who is the real killer - is the challenge that now faces Jasraj, apart from the telephonic threat that he too has received from the anonymous caller. Patel delves into the case even more deeply, putting his life at risk as the killer is constantly trying to bump him off. Eventually, Patel concludes that Roshni might not be killed by any of the men she was involved with.

The film opens before the declaration of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. At a Forward operating Airbase Air force Wing Commander Anand 'Andy' Bajwa, setting his stop watch waits for the Air raid Siren to go. As the siren goes he sprints Towards his MiG-21 armed, fueled and Ready for take off. Bajwa and His Air Force wingmen soon take off to an unknown Airbase in Rajasthan. Once there, he is Debriefed by his superior that he & his Squadron are assigned to the Jaisalmer sector and has to fly outdated Hawker Hunter Ground attack planes (with no night vision capabilities) to support the Indian Army. He is soon joined by his Brother-in-arms Army Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri (played by Sunny Deol) as they meet on a courier flight and speak about the possibility of opening of the Western front in light of the East Pakistan conflict. Kuldip takes up command of a company of the 23rd Battalion Punjab Regiment, arguing the light defence being assigned to the military post of Longewala. He meets his second in command 2nd Lt Dharamvir Bhan (Akshaye Khanna) (who happens to be the son of a 1965 Indo-Pakistani-War veteran who was killed during that war) and the Company NCO Subedar Mathura Das (Sudesh Berry). The company moves to the remote outpost in the deserts of Rajasthan and begin to expand the rudimentary Border Security Force (BSF) post and does a recce of the area up to the international border with Pakistan. They meet the post's BSF commandant Bhairon Singh (Sunil Shetty), a deeply patriotic man who expresses his love for the desert.

Set in the 1950s, the film begins with Anandan (Mohanlal), a struggling actor, seeking opportunities which will give him a big break in the film industry. Under his uncle's help, Anandan is given an opportunity to audition for the lead role in a forthcoming film. After completing his studies in London, Shakti Thakur (Anil Kapoor) returns to the small Indian town where his family resides. Accompanying him is his girlfriend, Anita (Pooja Batra), whom he is in love with and wants to marry, much to the disapproval of his family. After a few days, Shakti starts to feel that nothing much has changed in this part of India and longs to leave. He tells his father that he would like to sell his share in the family land and would open Restaurant business and settle with his girlfriend, to this his Father(Amrish Puri) urges him to stay in the village and uplift it with his education, by saying "A man gets Education not to become a selfish being but to uplift his uneducated brothers and society". Shakti does not agree with his father and decides to leave. He is unable to bear the animosity between the townspeople in general and in particular between his Zamindar dad, Raja Thakur (Amrish Puri), and rival Zamindar Birju (Govind Namdeo), none other than Raja's crippled brother.

Following the brutal slaying of a call-girl named Julie in Bombay city, two police inspectors, namely Anil Sharma and Rajat Bedi, are assigned to investigate and bring the culprit(s) to book. Anil & Rajat note that the killer leaves "2001" marked on the body of the victim. Anil comes to know that the man staying in Julie's room is a prominent Member of State Parliament, Ramaswamy, and would like to list him as a suspect. Julie's death is followed by more killings in the same style, and killed are Advocates Sarkari and Kajal, and a man named Krishna Rao. Then Ramaswamy himself is attacked, but survives and is hospitalized. When he regains consciousness for a brief period of time, he points an accusing finger at Rajat and then relapses. Not wanting to take any chance, Police Commissioner Malik has Rajat under house arrest. Then Anil comes across some evidence that links the killing to none other than Malik himself, while Rajat starts to gather together evidence against Anil.
