Dream Lovers () is a 1986 Hong Kong romantic fantasy film directed by Tony Au. The film stars Chow Yun Fat as Song Yu, a famous orchestra conductor who recently has visions of a beautiful woman and a Qin dynasty era terracotta statue. When Song visits the statues, he meets Cheung Yuet-heung (Brigitte Lin), who also has dreams of a long lost lover. but with her visions being more violent. The two meet with a medium who tells them that they are the reincarnations of a pair of lovers who were murdered hundreds of years earlier.

Dream Lovers was Tony Au's second film following Last Affair where he again worked with Chow Yun Fat. The film grossed over seven-million Hong Kong dollars on its release and was nominated for four awards at the 6th Hong Kong Film Awards, where Law Wing-fai won the award for best original film score.

The film is set in the Qing Dynasty during the 43rd year (1779) of the reign of the Qianlong Emperor. Li Mu Bai (Chow Yun-fat) is an accomplished Wudang swordsman. The story begins in the 1910s in early Republican China. Cheng Daqi, a young fruit vendor from Chuansha, is arrested and imprisoned after being framed for murder. He is saved by Mao Zai, an agent working for the Nationalist Government's secret police, after which he travels to Shanghai in search of a new life. In Shanghai, he meets Hong Shouting, a mob boss, and becomes one of Hong's apprentices. He also falls in love with Bao, a singer whom he eventually marries, even though his true love is actually Ye Zhiqiu, an opera actress from his hometown. At one point, Hong unknowingly offends the son of a general and is captured by the general's men. Cheng negotiates with the general and succeeds in striking up in a deal with him to release Hong and invest in their banking business. Hong feels so grateful to Cheng that he becomes sworn brothers with him later.

The film begins with Confucius as an old man, thinking back. Then we see him in his early 50s, being promoted from Mayor to Minister for Law in his home state of Lu. He is confronted with ethical issues after saving a slave-boy who was due to be buried alive with his former master who has just died. There is a lot of complex politics and war, ending with Confucius being rejected and becoming a wandering scholar. After many hardships and losses, he is invited back as an old man. We see him finally preparing the Spring and Autumn Annals, expecting that this book will determine his future influence.
