Synopsis

The film is a fictionalized account of the Defense of the Great Wall. During the Second Sino- Japanese war 20,000 Japanese troops and 50 tanks invade Pa Tou Lou Tzu, or Badaling, a strategic point along the Great Wall of China. The Defense of the Great Wall was one of the earliest battles, or "incidents," between Chinese and Japanese troops. The Chinese captured a Japanese outpost following a fierce battle. With stick grenades the Chinese disabled Japanese machine gun nests and killed all the Japanese inside. The Chinese outpost, with a force of seven men, held off the invading Japanese army for five days. First attack by Mongol mercenaries and Japanese troops failed and all Mongols were killed by the Chinese. On the sixth day, all 7 soldiers were killed in action. However, the outpost successfully covered for other Chinese forces to retreat. The seven soldiers tricked the Japanese army into believing there were a thousand Chinese troops defending the outpost.

Blood Brothers follows two aimless bandits Chang Wen Hsiang (David Chiang) and Huang Chang (Chen Kuan-tai) who attempt to rob Ma Xinyi (Ti Lung). A group of bandits flees with a stolen safe to a small town where they oppress the villagers and forces the town's blacksmith Wei Min-hui (Danny Lee) to unlock the safe. Wei refuses to help the bandits and after he informed the mayor about this, he reports to the officials in a nearby village. The bandits were furious that Wei has fled away and starts killing the villagers, threatening them they will kill a villager every hour if they do not find Wei. Finally, the heroes of the town come forward to wipe out the bandits. At this time, Wei also brings a government official to town, who unexpectedly turns out to be an accomplice of the bandits.

Pirate Cheung Po Tsai sales to a shoreline southern China disguised as a rich trader. There, the villagers live in poverty due to struggle against exploitation and corruption by the government. Martial arts club member Ho Tai's (Chen Kuan-tai) girlfriend Princess (Irene Chan) is the school babe, who also attracts the pursuit by star athlete Lam Tat (Ti Lung). Lam always ridicules Ho and they develop a bad relation. On the other hand, music club leader Hung Wai (David Chiang), who came from a family of martial arts, teaches martial arts to his club members to raise their spirits. The Chinese Navy led by its captain (Ti Lung) is attempting to defend its coastline from a Japanese attack, they send their commando unit led by Szu Shih into the mainland to enlist help to thwart the Japanese before they attack. Japanese officers have been hanging out in a place owned by David Chiang and his hot-headed body guard Fu Sheng but they are secretly opposed to the Japanese. The commandos enlist the help of Chiang and Sheng to kill the Japanese officers led by Shan Mao and destroy their attacking ships.

In late 9th-century imperial China, the Tang dynasty court no longer had effective control of its empire, and the national capital Chang'an was sacked by Huang Chao's anti-government army. Li Keyong, a Shatuo chieftain loyal to the Tang cause, led his troops to suppress the rebellion. His 13 generals—essentially all adopted sons—helped expel Huang from Chang'an, although a rift between some of them became more and more apparent in the process. Following the victory, Li Keyong accepted an invitation for a banquet at military governor Zhu Wen's territory of Bianliang, unaware that it was a trap to assassinate him.

Hu Te et al. escape the burning Shaolin temple after the Qing soldiers destroyed it in Shaolin Temple. The group of 5 decide to develop secret codes to identify fellow patriots, enlist those patriots and eventually meet up again to escape to the south away from the Qings, and also identify the traitor who sold out Shaolin temple. Ma Fu Yi (the traitor, played by Wang Lung Wei), joins the Qing top fighters to eliminate the rebels but is exposed by Ma Chao-Tsing who gets captured by Ma Fu Yi. Hu meets up with a group of Shaolin men secretly posing as bandits to rescue Ma as their leader is killed in the process, thus the bandits join the rest of the Shaolin patriots.
