Gramaphone is a 2003 Malayalam musical drama film by Kamal starring Dileep, Meera Jasmine and Navya Nair.

Synopsis

Sachidanandan (Dileep) runs an antique shop in the Jewish street at Kochi. He is famous for old Gramophone records. Jennifer (Meera Jasmine), Pattu Set (Oduvil Unnikrishnan), ‘Saigal’ Yousuf and Tabla Bhaskaran (Salim Kumar) are Sachi's fathers close friends. Sachi’s father was Raveendranathan (Murali) who was a great music director who died leaving him with a lot of musical instruments and some gramophone records. Sachi hates music, as he believes that his father has not made any money out of it. Aryadevi, a famous singer, who has been given her first break by Raveendran, comes to Kochi from Bombay with her daughter Pooja (Navya Nair).

The film is the story of Rajeevan, an advocate and Nandita Menon, a writer. Rajeevan is married to Rekha, a bank employee, and has two kids. Akbar (Dileep) is happily married to Raziya (Meera Jasmine). Akbar goes to the Persian Gulf for employment. There he befriends Raghu Rama Iyer (Vineeth) and John Kuruvilla (Biju Menon). The three become firm friends. Akbar loans some money to another Indian called Haneefa working with them. Haneefa absconds with the money and all efforts to get back the money goes in vain. During a fight with Haneefa, Akbar hits him but misses and accidentally kills Raghu. He is now facing the death penalty. The only way for him to escape the penalty is to obtain a letter from Raghu's wife Ganga (Kavya Madhavan) that she pardons him.

Kuttan Thampuran (Manoj K Jayan) is the son of Subhadra Thampurati and Kochanyian Thampuran of the Maangaattu kovilkkam. One day, Meera and Arjun get into a quarrel on the road and Meera gets into an auto. Arjun hitches a ride from Michael, who is riding in the same direction, to catch up with Meera. Suddenly, Michael is shot but Arjun saves him. After talking to Michael, Arjun changes his mind and wants to be a politician. Selvanayagam is worried when he hears news of students standing in the election. He uses every possible resource to get them out of Politics. Firstly he provides scholarship to study at a prestigious foreign university to Michael. When Michael refuses the bribe, he orders his goon Inba to take control. Inba beats some students but faces very strong retaliation from Michael and other students. He kidnaps Arjun and other candidates. However, they manage to escape with the help of Inba's ally, Dilli (Sriman). Inba follows Arjun and beats him up. While running, Arjun manages to call Michael for help. He comes to rescue Arjun at Napier Bridge. Then Inba is handed to the police. Michael wins the four seats he and his college mates have contested for. Sashi leaves for her hometown while Inba remains in prison hoping not to get the capital punishment. Michael, Arjun and two friends enter into politics.
