The film is usually regarded as one of the most poetic love stories in the 2000s. The plot of the movie is inspired from the English movie Brief Encounter.
Synopsis
The film is the story of Rajeevan, an advocate and Nandita Menon, a writer. Rajeevan is married to Rekha, a bank employee, and has two kids. Nandita is married to Mukundan (Siddique), a businessman in the Gulf, and has a daughter. Both meet each other accidentally and in due course their relationship becomes intimate. Their tastes and thinking are almost alike. Megha Malhar movie tells Nandita (Samyuktha Varma) who is a budding writer who works with a leading newspaper and Rajeev (Biju Menon) an attorney. They lead their normal family life happily. A mix-up in the cakes they ordered for their respective kids introduce the protagonists and their background.Actors

Sachidanandan (Dileep) runs an antique shop in the Jewish street at Kochi. He is famous for old Gramophone records. Jennifer (Meera Jasmine), Pattu Set (Oduvil Unnikrishnan), ‘Saigal’ Yousuf and Tabla Bhaskaran (Salim Kumar) are Sachi's fathers close friends. Abdul Razaq (Siddique) and Fareeda (Praveena), a Muslim couple in Kerala, are expecting their first child. Razaq wants the child to be a boy, and wants to name the child Faizal and call him Faizi, but to his disappointment, the child is a girl. Fareeda gives birth continuously to three more girls, which irritates Abdul Razaq, who migrates to Dubai. Rock N' Roll tells the story of Chandramouli (Mohanlal), a composer and drummer, of his return to Chennai from South Africa for a brief visit, and of the incidents happening in that short span. Gunasekharan (Siddique), a leading music composer, is busy with his composition for the latest film directed by Lal Jose. He feels, it would be better, if he gets the help of his old friend Chandramouli, who is now busy with his international concerts. But Mouli, a fun loving and jovial musician, makes a surprise landing in Chennai and helps Guna in his work. Mouli accidentally falls in love with Daya Sreenivasan (Lakshmi Rai), the female playback singer, who is also an ardent fan of Mouli. But because of the compulsions from her parents and fiancé, Vivek (Anoop Menon), she moves back to Mumbai. Mouli plots a plan with his friend Thabala Balu (Harisree Ashokan) to bring her back to Chennai. He makes Daya believe that he is now composing a dozen songs for a film and wants Daya to sing it. Daya, who comes back to Chennai, is not impressed by Mouli's tunes. When she openly expresses her unhappiness over the tune, Mouli takes it as a prestige issue and composes a song entirely dedicated to her. However, Daya is unable to attend the studio on that particular date as she is getting married to Vivek, whom she feels is too arrogant and sophisticated for her. Mouli enters the marriage venue and takes Daya to the studio for 30 minutes despite the opposition from her family members. Daya, who within time is fully in love with Mouli, realizes his love for her and opens her mind to him. The film ends with Mouli relaxing at a beach with Daya, but his old habits of carefree nature and passion for girls still not gone.

Ramakrishnan (Sreenivasan), the newly appointed Tahsildar in the city comes to take over the charge but he is refused to be given the charge by the present Tahsildar S. Priyadarshini (Nandini). Priyadarshini is a strict officer and is much hated by the staff and associates in the Taluk Office. So they readily offers to help Ramakrishnan and arranges him a home next to Priyadarshini's house for him to stay during the interim. Meanwhile Sagar Kottapuram (Mohanlal), a friend of Ramakrishnan and a novelist, comes to stay with him. But he mistakenly enters Priyadarshini's house, completely drunk, and sleeps in her bed. When Priyadarshini comes home she mistakes him to be a thief and calls the police arresting him. But the Local SI being a fan of Sagar's novels lets him off his charges. That night Sagar gets into a fight with Priyadarshini and vows to get her off her Tahsildar post within 24 hours. The next day Ramakrishnan himself assumes the charge as Tahsildar according to Sagar's instruction. When Priyadarshini comes and sees this, she locks him inside the office room. Sagar calls him and gets to know this. He informs the press about the Tahsildar being locked inside the room by the previous Tahsildar. The press rushes to the scene, the district collector comes and suspends Priyadarshini. Ramakrishnan and Sagar celebrate their victory. The next day Priyadarshini comes to their home and apologizes. She invites them for breakfast. During the breakfast Sagar and Priyadarshini gets to an argument and Priyadarshini becomes hysterical and tries to suicide by using the table knife. Sagar and Ramakrishnan try to hold her back to but the servant mistakes them to be molesting Priyadarshini, sreaming and running out of the house. They get arrested for rape attempt. Maamachan (Innocent), the owner of the magazine ‘’Manchadi’’ gets them out on bail. Sagar wants to take revenge but is calmed down by Maamachan and Ramakrishnan. But he decides to write a novel called ‘’Oru Gazzetted Yekshi’’ portraying the life of a corrupt and seditious Municipal Commissioner with her appearance matching Priyadarshini's to take vengeance against her. After much indirect abuses through the Novel, the rape case is being heard at the court where Priyadarshini’s advocate reveals that Priyadarshini and Sagar were previously engaged but was unmarried and that Sagar tried to rape her to revenge for this. But both didn’t know of the truth until then.

The film begins with the song “manju mazhakattil” showing the family of young Gautham Menon moving into Srinagar and the getting used to the Kashmir life. Later a group of terrorists siege the village and kill Guatham’s parents. Gautham’s older sister pulls him away from the killers and hides behind woods. The song continues and the shows Gautham growing to a teenager winning accolades from school. He runs to the hospital to share the joy with his still hospitalized sister, but sees her dying in the hospital bed.

Govindan (Manivannan) is a thief who has two children: Aadhi (Pasupathy) and Arivumathi (Vikram). Years go by and the two, Aadhi and Madhi, decide to stop stealing and mend their ways and lead a hardworking life along with their father. They migrate to neighboring village and meet a retired agricultural officer, Chidambaram (Vijayakumar) who is in deep debt and is under pressure from the village's landlord, Kalingarayar (Murali) to clear his debts. In efforts to help Chidambaran, Mathi confronts Seetha Lakshmi (Asin), Kalingarayar's daughter, who comes to collect the money Chidambaram owes her father. Seetha Lakshmi starts to acquire a liking for Mathi but keeps it hidden due to her father's atrocious temper. In an attempt to teach Kalingarayar a lesson, Mathi forcibly ties the mangalsutram around Seetha's neck. Kalingarayar, realizing his daughter's love for Mathi, comes down to arrange a grand remarriage between the two. But things go awry when Manicka Vel (Biju Menon), Seetha Lakshmi's maternal uncle, comes to town in an effort to stop the wedding between the two as he has plans of marrying her and wiping her family fortune.
