Synopsis
Chitra Narayan (Simran), a political journalist with Observer Daily in Delhi, is in love with Kiran Verma (Akshay Anand), a budding actor. She intrudes into the illegal affairs of Paul B. Issac (Devan), a Delhi-based politician. Paul B. Issac commits a murder and gets actor Kiran's face morphed onto his body in the video, whereby he traps him for the crime. Kiran is jailed under the charge of murder. Chitra gets the video tape, and she smells foul and tries to reveal the truth behind the morphing of images. She is followed by the goons of Paul. Chitra reaches Banglore, but the goons reach there after her. She is saved by Sathish Menon (Mammootty), a computer expert. He becomes her savior. After watching the video, Satish realizes the truth behind the crime and decides to expose Paul B. Issac. Meanwhile, Kiran is killed. Satish's software company suffers huge setbacks, after the illegal influence of Paul, causing huge losses. Satish openly begins his battle for justice for Chitra.Actors

Ramanujam Iyengar, also known as Ambi, is an orthodox Brahmin and a straightforward consumer protection advocate living in Chennai. He expects everyone to follow the laws and prosecutes those who flout them. However, his efforts fail as circumstantial evidence always seems to favour the accused. He also fails to raise civic awareness due to pervasive corruption and a general lack of seriousness. Frustrated at his inability to bring about a change in society, his suppressed anger manifests itself in an alter-ego named "Anniyan", a grim reaper-themed serial killer who punishes corrupt and indifferent people. Anniyan creates a website, compiles a list of wrongdoers from his site, and kills them using punishments described in the Garuda Purana, one of the ancient Hindu scriptures.

Mammootty is a sincere district collector. A female leader of a major political party is kidnapped by a terrorist Veeraiyan(Nassar) and he promises to return her back if his injured brother Arasappan (Napoleon) is treated well and brought back safely. The government agrees to this condition and asks Mammootty to look after Arasappan. At first;Arasappan hates Mammootty and his family as Mammootty works for the government against whom his brother's group is rebelling. But;the kindness shown by Mammootty's wife and mother change his attitude. Just when he was about to turn over a new leaf; a bad thing occurs. The police team;without taking the necessary orders from Mammootty go to the forest and attack Veeraiyan's gathering. This angers Arasappan;but he was restrained by Mammootty. Now;the police accuse Mammootty of having links with the terrorists as Arasappan ran away from his house and Mammootty condemned the police action. Hence;they arrest Mammootty's wife and mother. (Mammootty ran away to find Arasappan) Hearing this sad news; Arasappan himself surrenders to the police as he did not want them to suffer for him. But the police do not spare him despite his surrender.

The film starts off by showing Chithambaram (Prakash Raj), and how he's an important man in the village. He is an adamant character who always sticks on to his decisions. When the temple festival starts, Kausalya (Priyanka) goes to her grandfather's house to celebrate. There she meets Suresh (Vikram) and they fall in love. Meanwhile, Chithambaram gets into many conflicts with Suresh, not even knowing who the other was. All the things that Suresh did were unintentional but Chithambaram doesn't realize this. Therefore, Chithambaram ends up with a very negative opinion of Suresh. When the day comes that everyone in Kausalya's grandfather's's home find out that Suresh and Kausalya are in love, they try to get Chithambaram (Kausalya's father) to agree to the wedding. He, however stubbornly sticks to his decision that the marriage should not take place.

The film begins in a small village in Sri Lanka called Mankulam, where Shyama (Nandita Das) is married to Dileepan (J. D. Chakravarthy), who along with few other Sri Lankan Tamils in the village, is part of the Tamil Tigers rebel association. While having a quiet moment, the couple hears sounds of Sri Lankan army troops approaching. He asks Shyama to leave while he remains in the forest. Shyama realizes that she is pregnant and waits in vain for Dileepan’s return. Her villagers begin fleeing to India to seek refugee due to the war. Shyama is initially stubborn to leave since one of the rebels says that he has seen Dileepan with bullet wounds in the forest, but her relatives convince her to seek refuge for her unborn child's sake. The villagers board a to the shores of Rameswaram. While a local collector takes down the names of the refugees, Shyama gives birth to a baby girl. However, the urge to find her husband and be with her people back home overwhelms Shyama and she leaves behind the newborn girl, hoping that the girl will lead a better life.
