Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (translation: Say...You Love me) is a 2000 Indian romantic film directed by Rakesh Roshan. It marks the debuts of his son Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel. The film featured Hrithik in a double role as characters Rohit and Raj.

Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai was the most successful Bollywood film of 2000. It was subsequently added to the Limca Book of Records for the greatest number of awards won by a Bollywood film (102). Rakesh Roshan collected his first ever Filmfare Award, which he won as producer and as director. Hrithik, who received praise for his acting, became the only actor to win both, the Filmfare Award for Best Debut with the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for the same film.

Following the success of Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, the father-son duo went on colloborate on subsequent films such as Koi... Mil Gaya, Krrish, Krrish 3. and Kites.

Synopsis

Rohit (Hrithik Roshan) and his younger brother Amit are orphans living with a Christian couple Lily (Farida Jalal) and Anthony (Satish Shah). Rohit is an aspiring singer who works in a car showroom run by Malik (Dalip Tahil). One day he meets Sonia Saxena (Ameesha Patel), daughter of Mr. Saxena (Anupam Kher), when he goes to deliver a car to her home as her birthday present. Unknown to everybody, Saxena and Malik are running a drug cartel with help of two police officers (Mohnish Behl and Ashish Vidyarthi). Saxena is called "Sir Ji" (Sir) by the trio.

A scientist named Dr. Sanjay Mehra (director Rakesh Roshan) creates a computer program from which he sends variations of the syllable om into space, hoping to attract the attention of extraterrestrial life. When he believes he has finally gotten a response, the scientific community mocks him. While driving home, an alien spacecraft appears overhead. Dr. Mehra veers off the road, causing the car to hit a stone, flip over, and explode. Dr. Mehra dies, but his wife survives the wreck and returns home to India. When their son Rohit (Hrithik Roshan) is born, he is mentally disabled. His mother raises him in the town of Kasauli, where he grows up to be a man of limited intellect and childish personality, but with a loving and emotional heart. Rohit has a number of much younger friends: loyal children who play with him.

Scientist Rohit Mehra lives with his son Krishna "Krrish" Mehra (both played by Hrithik Roshan) in Mumbai. Krishna is married to Priya (Priyanka Chopra) who works as a journalist for Aaj Tak. On a usual day, Krishna loses his job from the security wing of a company when he hears news about an aeroplane whose front tyres are stuck due to some malfunctioning which creates high risk, even if landed, it may explode and so will the passengers inside. Krishna immediately changes himself to Krrish and saves the plane from accident by holding the component to make tyres free to roam.

She later learns that she is pregnant with Rahul's child. Her parents go back to Rahul to talk about marriage but to their shock he refuses to marry her. Priya is faced with a decision, and she chooses to keep the child. Her decision prompts her father to chuck her out the house. Alone and neglected Priya is devastated. Later; however her parents and brothers find it hard to live without her and they bring her back. But now she has to face the society and overcome the disdain of her neighbors, among others. Society virtually ostracizes her and her family. Upon going back to college she finds out that all of her friends now mock her, and girls prefer to stay away from her due to her bleak character. During all this time Ajay sticks by her like a true savior, and Priya starts falling for him. With his support and with the courage she was nurturing in her womb, she makes people realize that she isn't a fornicator, but a girl who loved someone immensely. She could have gotten rid of the child she holds in her body, but she didn't because her child was a being and not a piece of trash. She says that if only she had gotten married, maybe the scenarios would have been different, maybe her child would have been loved and valued, rather than abused and insulted. With these words, she eventually gains the support of those who had earlier disrespected her. Her friends finally accepted her the way they did before and she was having a back to normal life. At the same time she manages to change Rahul's views as well and he decides to marry her. in a fit of a moment, Ajay and Rahul both propose her. Priya, who had already started feeling for Ajay selects him over Rahul stating a spineless guy like Rahul can never be a reliable husband.
