Ashok Bansal (Jackie Shroff) is a strict industrialist, inspired by the British 'stiff upper lip'. Ashok starts hating poor people & starts working hard to become rich. Dhananjay Mane (Ashok Saraf) is a street-smart salesperson in a cosmetic store owned by Madhuri (Ashwini Bhave) in Pune. He lives as a tenant of a stingy landlord Vishwas Sarpotdar (Sudhir Joshi). He is soon joined by his younger brother Shantanu (Siddharth Ray) who is a Medical student. Though prohibited by the landlord, Dhananjay and Shantanu allow their friends Parshuram (Laxmikant Berde) and Sudhir (Sachin Pilgaonkar), who have come to Pune in search of jobs, to secretly live with them. One night, Dhananjay, Parshuram and Sudhir insult their landlord while drunk and are taken away by Shantanu, who arrives at the scene a little too late. Enraged by this harassment, Vishwas Sarpotdar orders them to vacate the place.

Courteous Police Inspector Rane intent on arresting notorious gangster P.C. Mathur finds himself on trial for murder and sentenced to seven years behind bars, of course being framed for the murder by his enemy. Following his prison term, Rane becomes an underworld operator known as Rana, intent on seeking revenge on Mathur and killing him. He hires Jai to kill Mathur but mistakenly kills somebody else in the process. Jai feeling angered by his mistake gives up a life of crime to concentrate on his family leaving Rana alone to hunt down Mathur. Suraj lives a wealthy lifestyle with his Police Inspector dad, Sangram, mom, and sister, Chutki. He joins the Police Force, and is appointed a Police Inspector. Shortly after his appointment, his dad brings Suraj's paternal uncle, Jaspal Singh, who subsequently moves in with them. When the time comes for Chutki's marriage, her to-be father-in-law, a Police Officer himself, stops the marriage proceedings as he would like Sangram to remove Jaspal from the Singh's household. When Sangram refuses, the marriage is canceled. When Suraj questions this, Sangram refuses to provide any answers. That night Jaspal leaves without telling anyone. Suraj meets with and falls in love with Vanisha. Subsequently, Suraj is suspended from active duty, arrested and charged with killing a man named Anthony. A woman named Geeta comes to his rescue with evidence to prove his innocence. Subsequently, Geeta is killed, and Suraj swears to bring in the culprit at any and all costs. Little does Suraj know that his girlfriend, Vanisha, is plotting to kill him; Sangram is not his real father, and he was sired by a bandit known only as Jarnail Singh. Things get worse when Jarnail's rival, Jabhar alias Zoravar, finds out about Suraj's biological lineage and sets forth to have him killed - by any and all means possible.

Kamini (Reena Roy) abandons Anil Mehra (Jeetendra) and their baby son Prakash for her own selfish reasons. A few years later, Anil falls in love with Radhika (Sulakshana Pandit) and marries her. Radhika treats Prakash as her own son, who is now a six-year-old. Radhika meets Kamini in a store and they become friends, not knowing about each other histories. Soon, Kamini realizes that Radhika is Anil's second wife and her own son's stepmother. She longs to be with Prakash and be a mother to him again. When he has an accident, she donates her own blood to save him and in the process, leaves behind her selfish nature. In the end, Anil doesn't give her the second chance to be a mother to Prakash. Heartbroken, she says goodbye to her son as he leaves with Anil and Radhika.
