The Long Winter (French title: Quand je serai parti... vous vivrez encore) is a 1999 Quebec historical drama film. Directed by Michel Brault, it is a partly fictionalized account of the Lower Canada Rebellion of 1837 and 1838 which sought to make Lower Canada, now Quebec, a republic independent from the British Empire.
Synopsis
Le film se déroule en 1838, en plein coeur du conflit entre les habitants français du Bas-Canada et les occupants anglais. À l'automne de la même année, François-Xavier Bouchard et plusieurs de ses compatriotes sont capturés. Jugés par un tribunal militaire, 12 patriotes sont pendus devant la porte de la prison, sous les yeux horrifiés de leurs compagnons. Pendant plusieurs mois, des dizaines d'autres patriotes, eux aussi condamnés à mort, attendent dans l'angoisse une exécution qui ne viendra jamais. Le film est inspiré des journaux authentiques de ceux qui vécurent ces évenements.Actors

A young nurse named Suzanne is kidnapped, assaulted and brutally raped in the back of a truck by a woman-hating stranger. The nurse's rape and the aftermath are part of a film which a director and her editor are working on. From time to time they pause the film to discuss their intentions and reactions to the film they are making. Mixed in with the story is documentary footage of the stories of other women who have been raped around the world.

Claude (Claude Gauthier) leaves his small town on the Côte-Nord to go to Montreal, where he works several odd jobs and eventually falls in love with Geneviève (Geneviève Bujold), a pretty waitress who works in a local diner. Claude enters a singing contest that launches his career. As he gradually becomes more well known, he has a brief affair with a married woman and breaks up with Geneviève. He returns to his hometown but nothing seems the same. Back in Montreal, he becomes increasingly more successful as a singer. One night he meets Geneviève backstage, only to learn she is now married, and realizes one can be as lonely in a small town as in a big city.

30 years since the Fall of Saigon, Ray Watson (played by Bobby Hosea from Under Heavy Fire), a Vietnam War veteran now working as a state senator, returns to Vietnam once again. When he arrives at his hotel room, he gets an unexpected visit from another veteran (played by Michael Ironside), who claims to be one of Ray's old comrades from Echo Company. Ray doesn't remember him, so he starts to remind him about the time that they served together. During the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940, a team of German saboteurs assume the identities of dead British soldiers and are transported to England. Their first objective is to cripple British air defences by destroying radar stations. Though the identities and whereabouts of the saboteurs are unknown, a team of British soldiers is set up to track them down and abort their mission. While the Battle of Britain rages overhead, the final confrontation takes place as the German team are about to blow up the RAF Fighter Command control centre.

A young American bomber pilot Gene Summers (Paul Massie) is selected by Maj. Two comrades and soldiers of the Red Army, Andrei Nekrasov (O. Yankovsky) and Ivan Karyakin (R. Bykov) were sent by their regimental commander (A. Papanov) on a reconnaissance mission to film the White Army fortifications on the way into Crimea (Perekop). The time is the early-to-mid-1960s, the height of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. An unknown aircraft approaches North America from Europe. American bombers of the Strategic Air Command (SAC) are scrambled to their fail safe points near Russia. The bombers have orders not to proceed past their fail safe points without receiving a special attack code. The original "threat" is proven to be innocuous and recall orders are issued. However, due to a technical failure, the attack code is transmitted to Group Six, which consists of six Vindicator supersonic bombers and four escort fighters. Colonel Grady, the head of the group, tries to contact Omaha to verify the fail-safe order (called Positive Check), but due to Soviet radar jamming, Grady cannot hear Omaha. Concluding that the attack order and the radar jamming could only mean nuclear war, Grady commands Group Six towards Moscow, their intended destination.
