Jacques Natteau (15 November 1920 – 17 April 2007) was a French Director of Photography born in Istanbul, Turkey. Natteau was married twice, first in 1942 to Geneviève Langevin, with whom he had a daughter, Catherine. The couple divorced in 1953. In 1961, while working on Le Comte de Monte Cristo, he met actress Yvonne Furneaux who starred as “Emma” in La Dolce Vita (Federico Fellini). They lived between London, Paris, and Rome in the 1960s as they continued to pursue their film careers. They were married from 1962 until his death. He had two children: Catherine with Geneviève and Nicholas Natteau with Yvonne.
Catherine and her only child Alexandre where murdered in 1980 by her estranged ex-husband Maxime Breguet who then committed suicide.

Following a car accident, Paul Wagner suffers a head injury he is struggling to recover fully and can not manage his business of trading of champagne. Christine Belling takes advantage of the situation to try to sell the company, which Paul refuses to accept. Murders are committed: it is likely that Paul is the culprit. He then approaches Christine for her support. But she uses the situation to make Paul agree to the sale. Paul is the prime suspect in the eyes of investigators (who never actually make an appearance), due to brain damage suffered in an earlier accident and assault. Jacqueline, Christine Belling's secretary, is at the heart of this case, observing everything. Jacqueline is related to Christopher, husband of Christine. The dénouement is slightly Hitchcok-like, but the film's humour is meaner, and the view of humanity it fosters is bleaker.

Au début du XIX siècle, à Marseille, Edmond Dantès est victime d'un complot ourdi par trois individus jaloux de son ascension sociale : le magistrat Henri de Villefort, l'officier Fernand de Mortcerf et l'envieux marin Caderousse le dénoncent comme étant bonapartiste. Edmond Dantès est arrêté et condamné à être incarcéré dans la prison de l'île du Château d'If. Villefort devient procureur, Mortcerf se marie avec Mercédès dont il a brisé ses fiançailles avec Dantès tandis que Caderousse, qui ne supportait pas de voir Dantès être prochainement promu capitaine de vaisseau, s'établit comme aubergiste. Au bout de dix-sept ans, Dantès parvient à communiquer avec l'abbé Faria, prisonnier d'une cellule voisine. Celui-ci lui apprend qu'un formidable trésor est caché dans l'île de Monte-Cristo. Les deux prisonniers décident de s'évader grâce à un ingénieux, mais risqué stratagème au cours duquel l'abbé Faria trouve la mort. Edmond Dantès parvient jusqu'à l'île de Monte-Cristo et, devenu immensément riche, fait son apparition dans la grande bourgeoisie parisienne sous le nom de comte de Monte-Cristo. Rien ne l'arrête, désormais, pour assouvir sa froide et implacable vengeance.
