Shin Saburi (佐分 利信, Saburi Shin; February 12, 1909 in Utashinai, Hokkaidō, Japan – September 22, 1982) was a Japanese film actor noted for his leading roles in a number of films by the director Yasujiro Ozu including Brothers and Sisters of the Toda Family (1941), Tea Over Rice (1952), Equinox Flower (1958) and Late Autumn (1960). He also directed over a dozen films.

Yoshitaro Nomura’s 1974 film of Seicho Matsumoto’s immensely popular detective story tells the tale of two detectives, Imanishi (Tetsuro Tamba) and Yoshimura (Kensaku Morita), tasked with tracking down the murderer of an old man, found bludgeoned to death in a rail yard. The upper-class Toda family celebrates the 69th birthday of their father with a commemorative photoshoot at their outdoor garden. Unfortunately, shortly after the photo session, the father, Shintaro Toda (戸田 進太郎 Toda Shintarō; Hideo Fujino), suffers a fatal heart attack. After his death his eldest son, Shinichiro (進一郎 Shin'ichirō; Tatsuo Saito) announces that as their father had acted as a guarantor for a company which has gone bankrupt, they must help pay off that company's debts. The family decides to sell off all their late father's properties and antiques, leaving only an old house by the sea. Meanwhile, the mother (Ayako Katsuragi) and the youngest daughter Setsuko (節子; Mieko Takamine) would go and stay with Shinichiro and his wife. The unmarried second brother Shojiro (Shin Saburi) takes the opportunity to move away from Japan to Tianjin, China (which had been occupied by Japan during the Second Sino-Japanese war).

À la mort du vieux Yasuhide Shima, son fils Yasuhiko et le chirurgien Sasajima, lui aussi amoureux de Keiko, tentent de reprendre le contrôle de la clinique.
