Shinichi Himori (日守新一, Himori Shin'ichi, 10 January 1907 – 12 September 1959), born Kazuo Moriyama (守山一雄, Moriyama Kazuo) was a Japanese film actor. He appeared in more than seventy films from 1925 to 1959.

Kazuo Ogata est écrivain mais malgré ses efforts, il ne parvient pas à vivre de son métier. Sa jeune femme Yoshie supporte avec une indéfectible bonne humeur la pauvreté et les privations. Le couple vit dans une pension mais lorsqu'un nouveau propriétaire arrive, ils doivent se résoudre à partir. Pour ne pas se retrouver à la rue, Kazuo fait entrer sa femme enceinte dans une clinique deux mois avant la date prévue de son accouchement. Une fille nait et Kazuo trouve une opportunité de quitter la clinique en allant habiter chez Ban, un ami, dans le quartier de Yokocho.

Ichiro Aoye (Toshirō Mifune), an artist, meets a famous young classical singer, Miyako Saijo (Shirley Yamaguchi) whilst working on his paintings in the mountains. After discovering they are both heading for the same location he offers to give her a motorcycle ride to where they are staying. On the way, they are spotted by paparazzi for the tabloid magazine Amour, who track the two down. As Saijo refuses to grant the photographers an interview, they plot their revenge by taking a picture of the couple having breakfast on a balcony and print it under the headline 'The Love Story of Miyako Saijo'.

Nobuko arrive de province pour enseigner dans une école pour filles. Elle est hébergée par sa tante Okei qui tient une maison de geisha et ne l'a pas revue depuis des années. La directrice de l'école confie à Nobuko les cours d'éducation physique et lui conseille de se départir de son fort accent provincial. Les débuts d'enseignante de Nobuko sont compliqués, moquée par les élèves pour son accent, elle est particulièrement en difficulté avec Eiko Hosokawa, une jeune fille turbulente et effrontée qui lui tient ouvertement tête. Nobuko n'obtient que peu de soutien de la part de ses collègues. Bien que les frasques d'Eiko soient connues de tous, son père est une personnalité haut placée et finance l'établissement. Nobuko est résolue à ne pas se laisser faire.

Yuzo Hibiki est un homme d'affaires brillant, issu d'un milieu pauvre, il a financé ses études en travaillant pour la clinique de Yasuhide Shima à Tokyo. Quand ce dernier tombe malade et que la clinique connaît de graves difficultés de gestion, il lui en confie la direction, plutôt qu'à son dispendieux fils aîné Yasuhiko. Yuzo redresse avec fermeté la situation, aidé en cela par l’infirmière Gin. Cette dernière en effet, tombée sous le charme de Yuzo, devient sa complice et l’informe sur tout. De son côté, Yuzo Hibiki est attiré par la fille de Yasuhide, Keiko. À la mort du vieux Yasuhide Shima, son fils Yasuhiko et le chirurgien Sasajima, lui aussi amoureux de Keiko, tentent de reprendre le contrôle de la clinique.

The movie opens on Toku and his fellow blind masseur friend Fuku walking down a mountain path talking about how they take pride in how many people they pass on their walks even though they are blind. They are walking north to work in a village of inns. Once there they perform their jobs and Toku encounters a woman from Tokyo who had ridden in a carriage that passed them on the road. He recognizes her by her distinct Tokyo smell. The next few scenes are comedic encounters with other customers and in particularly with a boy and his uncle. This boy meets the lady from Tokyo and she meets his uncle who becomes smitten with her. This makes Toku sad. All the while there is a rash of thefts of guest’s money while they take baths. Toku believes the woman is doing this and tries to have her escape, but finds out that she is not the one doing it. Instead all the reasons he thought it was her she explains as that she was a mistress of a man she didn’t like and was on the run from him. The next day Toku finds her sitting in a carriage, they say nothing but a man with a police officer also enters the carriage. It is unsaid but I assume that the man is her patron and the carriage takes off as a saddened Toku watches.
