Synopsis
Lam Chung (Tony Leung), the coach of eight hundred thousand Royal Guards, is a righteous person that is highly regarded by the imperial court and is addressed as a "martial arts mania". One day, Lam meets "Flowery Monk" Lo Chi-sam at Mount Wutai and with their wise appreciation of each other, they become sworn brothers. In order to help his brother to avoid frustration, Lo advises Lam to go to Liangshan County with him, but Lam rejects due to his loyalty.Actors

Hon (Elvis Tsui), Hei, Koon and Bonnie (Kingdom Yuen) are a group of bank robbers who hijacked an armoured truck. Hon and Hei managed to escape from the cops while Koon and Bonnie encounter rookie cop Wong Ka-fai (Aaron Kwok), whom arrests Koon when he fell off his motorcycle. Husker, is sent to the Shaolin Temple by the Iron Fisted Monk (Chen Sing), after he saves Sammo from a beating by the Manchu's. After being trained by his master (James Tien) he runs away from the temple, only to be confronted by his master and forced to take the four tests. Whilst this is happening, Fung Hark-On is indulging in his passion for raping women, and is virtually above the law as he is a powerful Manchu officer. He begins by raping Liang's (Chu Ching) sister, who then commits suicide and makes Liang a very angry man. Liang takes his revenge by killing one of those pesky Manchus but everyone thinks Sammo is responsible.

In year 689 of the Tang Dynasty, Wu Zetian is about to be crowned the first Empress in China despite opposition from Tang officials. To mark this occasion, she has a colossal Buddha figure built overlooking her palace. However, an official inspecting the Buddha's progress mysteriously erupts into flames. Penal officer Pei Donglai and his superior investigate and interrogates the supervising builder, a man named Shatuo, who was formerly imprisoned after he took part in a rebellion eight years ago. A nameless hitwoman (Jacklyn Wu) who, for reasons not entirely clear, has a lower than average body temperature. She is cold-blooded in other ways as well, assassinating her targets with steely detachment and having only two real acquaintances: the Cambodian woman who gives her killing assignments and money, and the street vendor Long Shek (Sean Lau), at whose stand she habitually relaxes after successful hits with a bowl of noodles. Long Shek dubs her Pretty Ghost, and the two gradually become something like friends. Pretty Ghost ends up traveling to South Korea to assassinate a local gangland kingpin, a job she decides will be her last. However, the dead man's bodyguard, Yichin (Sang Woo Han), is out for revenge and comes after Pretty Ghost, and she is quickly betrayed by her Cambodian boss. In between scenes of violence, the film explores Pretty Ghost's character and her slow change from icy killing machine to humanized woman.
