Synopsis
Refusant de croire au surnaturel et à l'au-delà, le professeur Phillip Goodman présente une émission de télévision où il démasque les charlatans qui affirment être en contact avec le monde des morts. Un jour, un de ses collègues spécialisés dans le paranormal, le professeur Cameron, lui demande sur son lit de mort de rouvrir trois étranges affaires non classées, se déroulant dans le même village, dont il n'a jamais élucidées. Alors qu'il accepte sa proposition malgré sa méfiance des superstitions, Goodman fait face à trois cas d'apparitions paranormales inexpliquées reliées entre elles par certains détails : un gardien de nuit, veuf depuis la mort de sa femme et qui a abandonné sa fille malade, est visité par le spectre d'une jeune fille qui travaillait dans un asile ; un adolescent pense avoir renversé le Diable dans les bois ; enfin, un financier est hanté par l'esprit de son enfant mort-né. Petit à petit, Goodman remet en questions ses croyances et se pense en danger.Actors

Après le décès de son père, en pleine période de Noël, Catherine hérite de sa vieille maison isolée en Norvège. Pourtant, elle souhaite vite la vendre pour s'éloigner des souvenirs de son enfance. Loin de son compagnon Marcus, elle se rend compte très vite que l'atmosphère est pesante dans la demeure et dans les alentours surtout lorsque les habitants de la région lui parlent de meurtres qui se sont déroulés dans les années 1950. . Une vieille femme lui raconte l'histoire de la petite disparition d'une petite fille de 7 ans, Marie, qui n'est d'autre que la sœur de sa propre mère dont elle ignorait l'existence. Après avoir entendu d'étranges bruits dans la maison, Catherine pense qu'elle est hantée et veut s'en débarrasser le plus rapidement possible. Mais, soudainement, elle rencontre une mystérieuse petite fille, Daisy, qui rôde autour de la bâtisse. Alors que Marcus s'inquiète du comportement troublant de sa fiancée, Catherine devient l'amie de l'enfant qui se révèle très vite être un fantôme.

Captain Herman Suvorin (Anton Walbrook) is a Russian soldier in St Petersburg in 1806. He comes from a working class background, and is consequently spurned by his wealthier fellow officers. As the Californian coastal town of Antonio Bay is about to celebrate its 100th anniversary, paranormal activity begins to occur at the stroke of midnight. Town priest Father Malone is in his church when a piece of masonry falls from the wall, revealing a cavity containing an old journal, his grandfather's diary from a century ago. It reveals that in 1880, six of the founders of Antonio Bay (including Malone's grandfather) deliberately sank and plundered a clipper ship named the Elizabeth Dane. The ship was owned by Blake, a wealthy man with leprosy who wanted to establish a leper colony nearby. Gold from the ship was used to build Antonio Bay and its church.
