Synopsis
Venugopal(Mukesh) is the lead singer of music band "Hits Orchestra". The troop consists of keyboard player Tony Fernandez (Siddique), Tabalist Shakkeer Bhai (Kunchan), guitarist Kannan (Maniyanpilla Raju) and violinist Babu (Idavela Babu). The story is about four thieves-turned-philanthropists, starting with the time they were thieves, how they meet together by chance and join forces, finally leading to a robbery attempt at a house that went awry but led to their reformation at the hands of the house owner who himself was a robber-turned-philanthropist. The thieves are played by Mukesh, Innocent, Jagathy Sreekumar and Mamukkoya, and philanthropist by Thilakan. The plot also shows how Thilakan spurs them to rob the corrupt rich and give to the poor, in the mold of Robin Hood, portraying two such gutsy episodes; first bringing to book a treacherous money lender Sunny (played by Shivaji) and next an unscrupulous business man and drug-dealer Madhava Menon, played by Babu Namboothiri. The second episode culminates in the murder of an accomplice of Madhava Menon, Dr. Narendran, played by Kollam Thulasi, at the hand of one of the four heroes, but Thilakan owns up this murder so as to exonerate him and let the good work continue.

Sivaraman (Mohanlal), an unemployed man, comes to Mumbai to find a job. Unfortunately he loses all his certificates but happens to find Govindan Kutty (Mukesh), who also is a jobless man (from Sivaraman's native place) wandering in Mumbai. They try to get visa from a travel agency but finds no way to gather such massive amount. Govindan Kutty persuades Sivaraman to participate in a bank robbery planned by Thomas (Cochin Haneefa) and his gang - his stammering brother Tyootty (Jagadish) and Alina (who pretends to be Thomas' lover) - which puts them in more trouble as the robbery ends in vain when they hit Pothuval (Innocent). Alina secretly informs the police about the robbery and tells that the entire plan was carried out by Thomas. Thomas, before getting arrested, hides the money, and the place is kept secret except to his lawyer, Nambeeshan (Jagathy Sreekumar). Alina fakes to be in love with Nambeeshan to find the place where the money is hidden.

Kunjalikutty (Siddique) gets a visa to Dubai and a job offer at his Dad's friend's (Madhu) school in Malappuram at the same time. His dad refuses to let him go to Dubai and wants him to take the teaching job. So he sends his friend Joji (Mukesh) as himself to the school and goes to Dubai without his parents knowing. This leads to hilarious situations as Joji could not reveal his identity to keep his job secure.

The film starts by displaying an antic of Keshavan (Thilakan) who is an inmate of the Kakkanad Mental Hospital. Two other inmates are Benny (Mukesh) and Krishnankutty (Jagathy Sreekumar), along with the female inmate played by Philomena. The late Hakeem Rawther too plays as an inmate in a cameo role. By profession Benny is an artist, Krishnankutty is an auto-mechanic and Keshavan had retired from military service. The trio chance to come across a newspaper report that the Hindi film star Amitabh Bachchan is visiting Ernakulam City for film shooting, which is near the place they stay. They are soon joined by Venu (Siddique), acting as the brother of Balan (N.N.Balakrishnan) who takes him to the mental hospital. Venu is a good singer but suffers from a compulsive obsession to singing.

Chirammal Enashu Francis, a.k.a. Pranchiyettan (Mammootty), is a successful businessman based in Thrissur. He is a devotee of Saint Francis of Assisi and often has imaginary conversations with the saint. His ancestors were rice traders, but he has grown beyond the small rice shop to expand his business into jewellery, real estate, finance, shopping complexes and lot more. Even though he is successful and wealthy, he is not well-educated (He has not cleared the SSLC exams), is unhappy with his name and also wants to become a celebrity. He is called Ari ("rice") Pranchi by everybody, citing his ancestors' business as a colloquial taunt. He wants to change his image from Ari Pranchi to something great and is ready to spend a fortune for it. The film deals with how Pranchi tries to get a good name and what changes that brings to his life.
