Raja is an Indian Bollywood movie released on 22 June 1995, starring Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Mukesh Khanna and Dalip Tahil. The film was Sanjay Kapoor's second film after his debut Prem with Tabu in Bollywood. Prem was a flop, but this film, though panned by critics to have many flaws did excellent business in Bollywood. Its success was attributed to Madhuri Dixit because of her ardent fans. It was the fourth highest grosser of the year at the box office Madhuri Dixit received a Filmfare Best Actress Award nomination, and won the Star Screen Award Best Actress for the year.

Synopsis

Rana Mahendra Pratap Garewal (Mukesh Khanna) is a wealthy businessman along with his brother Vishwa (Dalip Tahil). They are good friends with Brijnath (Birju) (Paresh Rawal) who is initially very rich but loses all his wealth in a fire in his factory. The Garewal brothers had initially proposed the marriage of Rana's younger sister Madhu (Madhuri Dixit) and Brijnath's younger brother Raja (Sanjay Kapoor) (both are young; their brothers are adults). They break the marriage off. Shocked and saddened at the rejection by his best friends, Birju goes mad and gets electrocuted by accident. Raja then stays in the city outskirts with his brother taking care of him by doing petty jobs.

Ranjit Rai (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) and Harbanslal (Dalip Tahil) are two wealthy business magnates who despise the poor. They try to break their children's friendship with Raja (Aamir Khan) and Kajal (Kajol), who are both poor. They fix up Ajay's marriage with Madhu and send Ajay to meet Madhu. As fate would have it, Ajay falls in love with Kajal instead and Raja and Madhu fall in love. This angers the two men, and they try to bribe Raja and Kajal into leaving Madhu and Ajay. When this doesn't work, they try to get Raja and Kajal killed. When the children realize what their fathers really did, they refuse to back down, their determination set in stone.

The story continues from the previous film. The four good-for-nothing friends Roy (Deshmukh), Adi (Warsi), Manav (Jaaferi) and Boman (Chaudhary), are still conning people for a living. One day, they see their enemy Kabir (Sanjay Dutt) driving the luxurious Mercedes Benz, and disguise themselves to find out the secret behind his success. They investigate and find that he lives off his wife's wealth. They then blackmail him into making them his business partners, but little do the four idiots know that Kabir and his wife Kamini (Sherawat) along with his sister Kiya (Ranaut) have an agenda of their own. Kabir connects them with an investor named Bata Bhai (Satish Kaushik) who is also a part-time don. The four friends steal Bata Bhai's money, and the money is then stolen by Kabir and his family. Kabir leaves the country along with his family, and leaves the four idiots to get killed by Bata Bhai. However, the four friends leave the city and manage to track Kabir down in Macau. They make a plan to ruin Kabir's happiness and take their money back by going in disguise. Roy cons Kiya by pretending to be in love with her, whilst Adi pretends to be Kabir's secretary. Boman poses as a woman in love with Kabir to break his relationship. Manav poses as various characters. Though, Kabir, Kamini, and Kiya have their own plan. They caught the four of them in their act.

Vishwa (Surya) and Nilani (Preetha) fall in love, her mother doesn't approve, but goes along with it. Complications arise when Surya's character exhibits "fashion" photos he's taken of Preetha, which further upsets Preetha's mother. Then it comes to light that Surya's father (Prakash Raj) had an affair, and things take a dramatic, tragic turn for the lovers. In the end, both families arrive at airport to prevent Preetha from boarding flight but to their bad luck they could not stop it. Preetha commits suicide by swallowing poison from her ring and Surya who gets hit by a wall turns into mentally challenged with behaviour of a child.
