Viji Thampi is a popular Malayalam film director. After making his debut in 1988 by directing David David Mr. David, Thampi, directed a series of comedy films, mostly big hits in 90s. By early 2000 most of his films started ending up as moderate hits. Viji Thampi is known for appearing in small roles in his own movies.

Kochukunju (Prithviraj) is the spoiled son of the well-known Vadakkan Veettil family in Kannur. He is the son of Kathreena (Ambika), who believes that his formal father David (Saikumar) has died (his life was actually spared by the killer sent out by his brothers to kill him). Captain Raju and Vijayaraghavan play the major old-age characters. In the film, Vijayaraghavan plays a double role as Kochousepp, the ancestor of the family, and one of his three sons. The protagonist of the film is an orphan who takes care of his sister. For an operation of his sister, he needs money. He joins with a known con artist and tries to make money. Ranjini Menon (Sithara), a gold medal winner in journalism arrives back in Kochi from Delhi. She starts living with her brother advocate Venu Menon(Saikumar)'s family and joins Malayalam news paper Kerala Today as an investigative journalist. She meets sub-editor Unnikrishnan (Jagadeesh), a shy young man. Unnikrishnan immediately falls for Ranjini but fails to reveal his feelings. Kunjoottan (Sreenivasan) is an innocent young man living in a remote village. He is the only heir to his rich, aristrocratic parents, Thamburan(Nedumudi Venu) and Kunjulakshmi(Sukumari). He cannot stand his overprotective father, who is concerned about his son because he had a bad dream about his son's death. The family astrologer Panikker(Oduvil Unnikrishnan) confirms this and predicts that it will be difficult for Kunjoottan to survive the age of 30 and that he is in great danger from motor vehicles.
